A little more

Welcome to my page! I imagine some of you are wondering why I chose Fight or Flight? as the title of my blog.  Well, I have a 2-pronged answer. 

1: I wanted a title that went along with my username, sidewalkflight.

2: It was also inspired by the William Blake proverb: “He who desires but acts not, breeds pestilence.”  This quote brings up interesting questions about our fight-and-flight mechanisms; why do people run from conflict when they truly desire to confront it, and does consistently acting against one’s desires really breed a culture of compliance, self-hatred and fear?
     To me, this issue is at the heart of what it means to be a part of a society.  All of us have radically different answers to this question.  Some of us even find the societal influences on human desire and action (or nonaction) to be wholly uninteresting.  That’s what makes life…life. 

And that’s what I want to blog about.
